Yesterday evening saw the premiere of my new piece ‘Eucharist’ for Timpani, Tenor voice, and Strings.
It was performed by Owain Williams, who commissioned the piece specially for the occasion, his final recital at the Royal College of Music. Michael Scott sang Tenor, and the orchestra was conducted by Ben Palmer. The performance was a resounding success, and Owain brought his own brand of dramatic intensity to the part as I knew he would. Also, Michael Scott’s crisp and subtle delivery gave haunting clarity to the text, a poem by Ciorsdan Glass.
The recital was diverse and colourful, reflecting Owain’s eclectic musical interests. I particularly enjoyed the arrangement of J.S. Bach’s ‘Toccata and Fugue in D Minor’ for three marimbas.
Very gratifying to create music with such a talented young musician at such an exciting point in his career!
Mumblypegs on BBC 6Music
My acoustic duo with Olie Campbell ‘Mumblypegs‘ had some unexpected airplay on Lauren Laverne’s 6Music show this morning. As part of a regular feature in conjunction with local BBC radio stations, Lauren interviewed Jeremy Sallis of BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, who has featured us on his BBC introducing show in the past. He said some very lovely things about us, and then Lauren played our song ‘Sleepyside’. You can listen to to the broadcast on listen again (we are approximately 46 minutes in so skip to us there).
