Some of you will know that I’ve worked with Peaceful Lion Productions on two pieces of family theatre over the past couple of years – Bringing Down The Moon, and more recently Hey, Presto! This past week the company has been working tremendously hard to create a very special piece of theatre.
Rhyming Capers is a new play written specifically for performance within a medical setting, aimed at ages 3 to 8. Director and writer Ollie Fielding, along with three immensely talented and industrious actors, has managed to create a whole new show and perform it to children in six hospitals across London – all in one week! Here’s some feedback from one audience member:
“This is amazing. It makes me happy! The songs are very nice and the characters are funny. I loved the spider and rapping King! I have never seen anything like this before.”
I believe work of this kind is so important. It’s surprising how little theatre is being made specifically for performance within a healthcare setting. This week has been a pilot project, but the hope is that Peaceful Lion will be able to make theatre for hospitals a regular and central part of their work.
